Créée en 1758 par Jacques II Chambrette, déjà détenteur de la faïencerie de Lunéville, la faïencerie de Saint-Clément a été conçue pour échapper aux taxes que devaient payer la faïencerie de Lunéville, alors dans le duché de Lorraine (qui n'était pas en France) pour exporter ses faïences en France. La même année, Jacques II décède.
